You often start it early, potty training. Some children are more interested in it at a younger age than others. Every child has their own pace in this and that is totally fine. Is the first day of school approaching? Then you will want to step up the training a bit, because your child needs to be potty-trained before primary school.
Some tips for toilet training:
-Buy a nice potty together and put your child on the potty any time he or she is likely to need to poop or pee. Instead of a potty, you can of course use a toilet reducer. It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s a nice little moment so that your child learns to get used to sitting on a potty or the toilet. That’s what this first step is all about.
-Does your child manage to poop or pee on the potty or toilet for the first time? Then compliment your child. Distracting by, for example, taking pictures or giving a present is not a good idea. It is better to finish the moment calmly and relaxed.
-Your child is now used to the potty or toilet and has had his or her first success. Then it is now time to make it routine. Put your child on the potty or toilet several times a day. Even if nothing happens then, that’s not a bad thing at all. The idea is to make it routine to do this.
-Daily potty-trained, but not yet at night? Don’t worry, this often comes naturally after a while. An intermediate step you can take is to wake your child up for the toilet when you go to bed yourself.
